Get ready to deck the halls, because we are relaunching a brand new collection of bejeweled glass ornaments for the holidays!

How exciting to work with a very talented group of artisans in Poland who can take our whimsical drawings and slowly bring them to life. Hold each ornament and you can feel their old-world craftsmanship, with such great techniques and skill.

The beauty of our Jungle figurines was the starting point in designing the four “Safari” ornaments. Creating fully blown glass ornaments presents the challenge of having limited amount of open areas on each design. So usually we fill in under the animals with blades of grass.

Here is the drawing we worked on for the zebra, showing multiple views. The model makers begin to carve a model first in clay…

then plaster…

and finally a mold is made that glass can be mouth-blown into. I like it when the glass can be a little bit heavier, so the finished ornament has a nice weight to it. Just like we do in New York, they will then take out their paints, glitter, and Swarovski stones to detail and bejewel each ornament.

The “Safari” collection not only has a zebra, but also a giraffe and elephant.

The last style is a classic oval ornament that we had carved with a bow on top, wrapping around the spotted, decorated jungle pattern.

As a young Jewish boy, I was always a little bit jealous of our neighbors with their glittery holiday tree full of ornaments. I always laugh that I finally have all these wonderful ornaments some 50 years later! I look forward to sharing more inspirations and photos from the collection with you soon.

  1. Hey! This post couldn’t be written any better! Reading through this post reminds me of my previous room mate! He always kept talking about this. I will forward this page to him. Fairly certain he will have a good read. Many thanks for sharing!
